Bill Maher Doubles Down On His Criticism of ‘Eyeroll Activism,’ Calls Out Hollywood ‘Posers’

Bill Maher had more to say about what he calls “eyeroll activism” on the red carpet.

During the “New Rule” segment of his HBO talk show Real Time on January 30, Maher, 70, echoed the sentiment he shared when he was interviewed at the Golden Globes on January 11.

At the awards ceremony, celebrities including Wanda Sykes and Mark Ruffalo donned pins reading “Be Good” in honor of Renée Good, the Minnesota woman shot and killed by an ICE agent January 7. As Globe previously reported, when Maher was asked why he wasn’t wearing a pin, he told a reporter, “Come on, we’re here for show business today. You know, it was a terrible thing that happened, and it shouldn’t have happened. And, if they didn’t act like such thugs, it wouldn’t have had to happen. But I don’t need to wear a pin about it.”

During the talk show segment, Maher doubled down on his criticism. “I hope I didn’t spoil the perfect record of pins and ribbons solving all the world’s problems,” he said sarcastically.

“You fing posers. Three years ago everybody was all into Ukrainian flags,” he continued. “What happened to that? Another cause tossed into the junk drawer with yesterday’s choke collar? Get out of here with your virtue-signaling body ornaments. They’re just crucifixes for liberals, because every time I see one, I think, Jesus Christ. But congratulations for raising awareness. The awareness you really care about, which is how wonderful you are.”
