Rusty Yates is weighing in on Lindsay Clancy‘s high-profile murder trial as a Massachusetts jury deliberates her fate.

In a clip posted to the NewsNation’s official TikTok on Wednesday, September 2, Rusty, 61, explained why he believes the case involving Clancy, 36, is different from that of his ex-wife, Andrea Yates, who was tried for killing their children: Noah, 7, John, 5, Paul, 3, Luke, 2, and Mary, 6 months.

“I think this case is a little murkier, you know? It’s not quite as clear as Andrea’s was,” Rusty said in the video shared via social media on Wednesday, September 2.

“I mean Andrea had a — hundreds of pages of medical records, you know?” he continued in the clip, pointing to Andrea’s documented history of postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis.

In the video, Rusty, who divorced Andrea in 2005, said Clancy had comparatively “sparse” medical records, while Andrea’s mental health struggles were “pretty well documented” before the deaths of their five children. “And you know the state went far and wide to find anyone who’d say anything negative about Andrea, and they couldn’t. They couldn’t find anyone because she’s such a sweet person,” he said.

Clancy is facing first-degree murder charges in the January 2023 deaths of her three children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months — who were found unresponsive at the family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts, home. Her attorneys have argued that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis.

As Globe previously reported, Andrea’s case has haunted Clancy long before her own trial began. A former coworker, Margaret Hamp, testified that Clancy became visibly emotional years ago when the two discussed Andrea’s case while working together as labor and delivery nurses at Massachusetts General Hospital. “She cried and said, ‘how could a mother hurt her children,'” Hamp recalled on the stand, per The U.S. Sun.

Clancy’s jury remains deadlocked after days of deliberation, and the judge urged jurors to keep working toward a unanimous verdict before a mistrial is declared.
