Ryan Lochte announced he was sober after completing rehab one week after his estranged wife, Kayla Reid, filed documents accusing him of doing drugs in front of one of their children.

“With everything going on in my life, I need to make a drastic change. I checked myself into a Florida recovery center,” the former Olympic swimmer, who said he was 54 days sober, told fans in a video posted on Instagram on Friday, August 29.

“The staff there… helped me realize that substance abuse isn’t a solution, it’s just a distraction that makes things worse,” Lochte, 41, admitted. “Now I feel so much better, I’m thinking clearly, I’m motivated and I’m moving forward.”

As part of her attempt to obtain sole custody of their children — Caiden, 8, Liv, 6, and Georgia, 2 — Reid claimed the six-time gold medalist “has a history of substance abuse and, upon information and belief, he is still abusing illegal controlled substances,” according to documents obtained by Us Weekly.

Reid, 34, claimed she found “mostly empty baggies of cocaine” on the dining room table, in one of the kids’ bedrooms and in another child’s bathroom, and that she “also caught [Lochte] inhaling nitrous oxide in front of” one of the children.

“I adamantly deny ever using drugs in front of or around my children,” the former Dancing with the Stars contestant said in a statement to Us Weekly.

Reid first filed for divorce after seven years of marriage in March. Here’s what we know about her.

She’s A Former Playmate of the Month

The Virginia native moved to California for college, according to her LinkedIn profile. There, she worked as a Monster Energy drink model and was scouted by a Playboy photographer.

She was named Playmate of the Month in July, 2015.

She Met Lochte On Instagram

Despite telling Cosmopolitan in July 2016 that he was “matching up with a bunch of gorgeous women” on Tinder, Lochte had already slid into Reid’s DMs on Instagram earlier that year, he told People in 2018.

“He was like, ‘Hey, I’d like to buy you a drink!’ I wrote back ‘Maybe.’ He was so persistent, constantly. I was like ‘Oh fine! I’ll meet with you,’” Reid told People.

When they finally met in person at an LA club, Lochte added, “we reached out and grabbed each other’s hands and were like ‘This is you! Finally.’ And we didn’t want to let go.”

She Was By His Side At The Rio Olympics

In the lead-up to the 2016 Olympic Games, the pair posted frequent photos of each other on Instagram. She also called him her “favorite person on the planet” and a “silver fox,” in reference to his ice-blue hair.

Lochte even shared a Snapchat from the Beats House in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in which Reid was sitting on his lap — though he later insisted to Today that he was still single and on Tinder.

They Got Engaged in 2016

Two months after the Rio Olympics, he surprised her with a proposal in Malibu. “Speechless. Absolutely beautiful. So in love with YOU,” she gushed on Instagram on October 9.

Their first child, son Caiden, was born on June 8, 2017. “Can’t stop crying from tears of joy. Dream come true!” Lochte gushed on Instagram at the time.

Lochte and Reid tied the knot at home in Florida in January, 2018, then threw a formal ceremony in Palm Springs, California, that September.

They welcomed daughter Liv on June 17, 2019, and daughter Georgia was born on June 21, 2023.

She Works As A Realtor — And An Influencer

Since 2021, Reid has worked as a realtor in Gainesville, Florida.

“I continue to be impressed with all Gainesville has to offer. I love the small-town vibe, but the culture and sporting events typically only found in a big city,” she told the Guide to Greater Gainesville at the time.

She was inspired by her father and grandfather’s family business building custom houses, she added: “They instilled my love of homes and showed me the value of determination and a strong work ethic.”

Reid, who has since petitioned the court for permission to move with her kids to California, also has 338,000 followers on Instagram, which features her cooking videos and parenting tips.
