“As much as it’s tragic and it was a terrible day, I am looking forward to it because it’s such an amazing honor to be able to get to go to New York and to share in that moment when all the parents and the kids read the names of the people who lost their lives,” Vance, 42, said during a press briefing on Thursday, September 3, as seen in a video shared to X. “I did it once before, I think during the 2024 campaign, it’s one of the most amazing experiences of my life.”
As the clip began making the rounds on social media, users were quick to point out Vance’s choice of words.
“He is going to enjoy the reading of the names!. What is wrong with this guy?” one user wrote via X.
“Ghoulishly self-centered,” another added.
“Such an amazing experience to hear the names of all the victims, he’s gleefully really looking forward to it,” a third added sarcastically.
Others took the opportunity to compare Vance with former president Barack Obama, with one person writing, “I could see Obama conveying this sentiment and it being very clear and understandable. But Vance literally says how amazing it is to hear kids say names of dead people.”

President Donald Trump‘s second-in-command recently had another flub about the upcoming anniversary.
“We’re about to celebrate the 25th year,” he told a crowd in Sterling Heights, Michigan, on Monday, August 31. “Or commemorate the 25th year of those terrible terrorist attacks and celebrate all the brave heroes who made it, frankly as terrible as it was, it could have been so much worse.”
As Globe previously reported, Vance will be in attendance at Ground Zero in New York City on Friday, September 11, for the 25th anniversary, while Trump, 80, will be attending a ceremony at the Pentagon instead.
The sitting president will be the only living U.S. president not to attend the remembrance ceremony in New York City, as the ceremony has barred politicians from giving speeches in an effort to remain nonpartisan, the New York Times reported.
