Randy Quaid has some big feelings about who should be cast in the Days of Thunder sequel — and he’s especially opposed to Anne Hathaway nabbing the leading female role.
“We need Nicole back. Don’t be a [expletive], @TomCruise. You need the original girl. It’s not personal; it’s filmmaking,” Quaid, 75, wrote in a message on X shared on Saturday, August 29 while referring to Nicole Kidman. “Anne isn’t sexy, because and if you haven’t noticed, she’s pregnant.”
Kidman, 58, and ex-husband Tom Cruise previously starred in the original film, which premiered in 1990. (It’s also important to note that the film likely won’t begin production until 2027, and Hathaway is due to give birth before the end of the year.)
Over the weekend, Cruise, 64, announced that he would be reprising his role as Cole Trickle in the Days of Thunder sequel and Hathaway, 43, will star as the racing team’s owner and engineer. It’s slated to premiere in June 2028.

The National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation star didn’t stop with one message though.
“Anne Hathaway is a leftist, woke, horrible choice for DAYS OF THUNDER NASCAR audience who are MAGA,” Quaid ranted in a followup post. “The sexy older chick for Tom in this film needs to be Nicole. That’s the casting that would sell the idea. It’s interesting because when we made the first one there was also a rush to get it out; editors slept in the cutting room on shifts. This is a weird thing, like they want it to come out and tank.”
The Independence Day actor isn’t a stranger to controversial political rants. He has been an outspoken supporter of PresidentDonald Trump for years, and in 2020, he made headlines for pushing false claims of widespread voter fraud and calling for a new vote. Trump, 80, even shared some of Quaid’s posts on his own account, per Forbes.
