Kai Trump could not hold back tears as she prepared to leave home and start her freshman year at the University of Miami. Kai is the oldest of five children Donald Trump Jr. shares with ex-wife Vanessa Trump.
The 19-year-old documented her move to college in a YouTube video posted on Saturday, August 29.
Sitting behind the wheel before saying goodbye to her family and friends, she admitted the moment hit harder than she expected.

“I’m not a very emotional person at all, so this is like really weird for me to cry,” she said, explaining that she has “only cried a few times” in her life.
“I think knowing that I have to say goodbye to everyone tonight really, really sucks,” she continued. “I’m struggling right now, just thinking about it.”
Even with the emotional goodbye, PresidentDonald Trump‘s granddaughter said she was looking forward to starting a new chapter.

“I’m moving on. … It happens to everyone. It’s time to move on,” she told viewers.
Once classes began, Kai settled into a packed routine of golf practice, athletic meetings and schoolwork.
In the video, her friend Emma later stopped by the apartment with frozen meals and groceries after Kai said she “hadn’t eaten in three days.”
“It’s all pre-cooked so she doesn’t have to do anything crazy,” Emma said.
“She’s living off of diet sodas, so I got her fruit and prosciutto and we got her some pasta and bread and stuff, like basic foods, she’s basically living off of diet soda.”

Kai and Emma also spent time shopping and exploring Miami, but the week took a rough turn when Kai felt sick. “I got sick with strep on Wednesday, my first week of school,” Kai said in the vlog.
“I came all the way back to Jupiter because I was so sick I needed my mom to nurse me back to health,” she added.
By the end of the video, Kai had returned to campus and was back spending time with her University of Miami golf teammates.
Kai chose not to film her family’s goodbyes, saying she wanted to stay present during the emotional moment.
Vanessa, 48, later helped her daughter settle into her new apartment and shop for everything she needed, Kai shared on Instagram.
She committed to the University of Miami golf team in 2024, nearly two years before graduating from high school in May, as per People.
