Right-wing influencers James O’Keefe and Cameron Higby have been charged with unlawful voting and identity theft in Minnesota.
Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriartyannounced the felony charges on Wednesday, October 28, announcing that O’Keefe, 42, and Higby, 26, disguised their identities with costumes, gave false names of registered voters in the state and attempted to vote at multiple polling locations in the August primary.
O’Keefe, of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Higby, of Covington, Washington, were flagged by poll workers who found their behavior suspicious.
“Minnesota law states clearly that no individual shall intentionally misrepresent their identity in applying for a ballot,” Moriarty said, adding that “the system for identifying misconduct and responding to it functioned well during the primary.”
Investigators reportedly used O’Keefe and Higby’s own video, which was shared to their social media profiles on August 13, as evidence against the MAGA influencers.

“I went undercover in Minneapolis, Michigan, on Primary Election Day with [Anthony Rubin], founder of @realmuckraker and [Cam Higby], members of the Justice League and OMG undercover journalists to put Minnesota’s voter ‘vouching’ system to the test,” O’Keefe shared, apparently mistaking the state he was in, alongside the video that showed him dressed in “Muslim garb” and Higby wearing a burka.
While neither O’Keefe nor Higby officially cast a fraudulent ballot, Moriarty explained that their attempts to obtain ballots violated Minnesota law.
Both men are facing five years in prison per count.
O’Keefe is scheduled to host the Citizen Journalist Gala at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago on November 12.
