A professional poker player is thankful he’s alive after a scary encounter he said ended with him being tied up and robbed.
During a recent World Series of Poker (WSOP) event held in Las Vegas, Jared Griener finished 218th place in a WSOP Main Event, according to Spade Poker, and received a reward of $57,500.
However, Griener was allegedly targeted — and when he got back to his room, he was robbed of his winnings.

In a post shared to X on Monday, July 13, he explained that he “collected payouts from the summer and drove back to my Airbnb.” However, he shared “two men were there waiting” when he walked in and “immediately tackled me to the ground and tied me up and took my backpack with my entire roll in it.”
Griener included a screenshot of a text message that read, “They tackled me and pinned me down and told me they’d kill me if I moved.”
“The [sic] hog tied me with duct tape,” he claimed in a text. “Took my bag with literally all my money in it. I cashed out cause I was going back to La tonight or tomorrow.”
Griener’s text explained that he was “with the cops for hours” while they investigated the matter.

In a follow-up X post, he explained in further detail that he was coming back to his Airbnb at approximately 8 p.m. and the front door “was locked as usual.”
Upon entering, Griener claimed that he was immediately tackled to the ground. “Once they had me subdued they immediately began asking me over and over again where my backpack was and threatened to kill me if I didn’t tell them,” he wrote.
Griener told the men that the backpack was in his car and “begged them to take whatever they wanted and leave and to please let me live.”
After Griener realized they had left the scene, he began to “wriggle” himself out of the tape. “It took me about 10 minutes to slip my shoes off, break up some of the tape and get to my feet,” he added
When Griener contacted authorities, they immediately responded but were unsuccessful in finding the people who took his money.
