“It’s just a difference of opinion or a different stance on the way they look at things,” Prevost, 71, said during an interview with NBC Chicago on Wednesday, April 22.
Prevost believes the feud may have begun after a rumor about the Pope’s canceled trip to the United States began circulating.
“When some newscaster announced that the Pope canceled a trip to the United States, that’s not true,” Prevost explained. “At no time was the Pope planning a trip to the United States this year. That may have been what started some kind of a problem.”
The Pope and Trump, 79, have exchanged pointed messages in recent weeks over the war in Iran, with the president calling Leo “WEAK on Crime and terrible for Foreign Policy.”

“I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon. I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s terrible that America attacked Venezuela, a country that was sending massive amounts of drugs into the United States and, even worse, emptying their prisons, including murderers, drug dealers, and killers, into our Country,” the former reality tv host ranted in an April 12 Truth Social post. “And I don’t want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States because I’m doing exactly what I was elected, IN A LANDSLIDE, to do, setting Record Low Numbers in Crime, and creating the Greatest Stock Market in History.”
The following day, in a comment to reporters, the religious leader said, “I have no fear of the Trump administration or speaking out loudly of the message of the Gospel, which is what I believe I am here to do.”
