Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton wants to hold President Donald Trump to task over his “unhinged” social media posts.
Clinton, 78, appeared on MS Now’s Morning Joe on Monday, April 13, to talk about Hungary’s election and Trump’s role in backing losing candidate Victor Orbán. The conversation soon turned to his competency as president and Clinton pulled no punches when discussing the former reality star’s Truth Social account.
“Words, especially from an American president, have real consequences,” Clinton told the MS NOW hosts by phone. “And when you look at the last week of unhinged rants coming from Trump’s social media account, it’s just disgraceful.”
The former Democratic presidential candidate cited recent examples, such as the president, 79, saying he would wipe out Iran’s entire civilization as well as a recent attack against the character of Pope Leo XIV, to demonstrate her point. She said that reading the posts has her “both shaking my head and really just feeling sick at heart that we have a president who is such a disgrace.”

“This country of ours is a result of the development over centuries of Western civilization,” she said. “It is about how we hold leaders accountable so they don’t become autocrats and dictators, and how they don’t lead us into reckless wars and really unhinged attacks on the first American pope.”
She concluded her comments on the president by saying that she believes there needs to be some way to hold the president accountable for his inflammatory remarks, which he makes from behind a seat of power on behalf of the American people.

“Accountability is a very broad concept,” Clinton continued. “It’s not just about holding people accountable for the crimes that they’ve committed, maybe the bribes that they’ve taken, the kind of unaccountable power they’ve exercised. It’s also about holding them to a standard — and the standard should be American democracy, our institutions, the rule of law, how we conduct ourselves.”
