After learning a lead-footed NYPD cop has racked up a whopping 547 speeding tickets while zooming around the city in a tank-like, two-ton pickup, new Mayor Zohran Mamdani hemmed and hawed about doing anything about it!

Speeding blueblood James Giovansanti, 33, has totaled $36,650.02 in fines, paying some, since 2022, including tearing through red lights and school zones in his 4,800-pound Dodge Ram truck, reports say.

According to The New York Post, his usual routes include heavily peopled areas on Staten Island’s North Shore.
Per the report, it’s unclear how fast the off-duty copper was going, but city speed limits are 25 or 30 mph and he reportedly ripped through 105 red lights in just over three years.
State Sen. Andrew Gounardes, who represents parts of Brooklyn, has proposed a “Stop Super Speeders Act” to nab “serial speeders” like Giovansanti, the outlet said.
“Cops are supposed to protect and serve, not speed and swerve,” the politico said, per ThePost. “Their job is to keep us safe, so it’s disappointing to see this officer putting his neighbors in harm’s way.”
Told about the officer’s zooming, Mayor Mamdani slammed it as “unacceptable.”
Asked what he was going to do about it, the mayor did a politician’s tap dance, only promising: “We are going to have a conversation internally around what it looks like to follow through on that,” per Streets Blog NYC.
An NYPD spokesman said that the officer’s tickets were under internal review, and that the violations occurred when he was off duty.
