Nolan Wells Update: Late Teen’s Best Friend Warren Hudson Speaks Out Amid Online Rumors

Questions remain about the disappearance of Nolan Wells, and his self-proclaimed best friend Warren Hudson recently spoke out to try and clear up some of the rumors.

“It’s a sick world we’re living in,” Hudson told the New York Post in an article published on Tuesday, July 21. “It’s terrible. Nolan was my best friend. There’s no facts out, just a lot of rumors. That’s just how the internet is today. That’s really it, it’s horrible.”

Nolan, 18, was on a trip with friends to Horn Island off the coast of Mississippi during the 4th of July weekend. While his friends headed back to the mainland, they claimed that Nolan wanted to stay behind because he had met a girl. He didn’t return that night and two days later, he was found face down in the water on July 6.

The state of Mississippi began investigating his death. However, Nolan’s parents, Christine Wells-Wonsley and Elmore Wonsley, launched a private investigation of their own with the help of civil rights attorney Ben Crump.

Christine and Elmore have said they have a hard time believing Nolan would separate from his group of friends while on a trip.

“That we cannot answer,” Christine said during an appearance on Good Morning America on July 10, noting it would have been unusual for Nolan to separate from his friends. “I just, I can’t fathom why he would.”

Elmore added that he and Christine “always taught him that if you go with a group, you stay with a group.”

With all of the unanswered questions, speculation online has led to threats being aimed at both Nolan’s parents and the friends he was with on the outing.

Warren’s mom, Ashlee Cole, previously shared screenshots of some of the messages she received.

“Ima wrap this kid in a blanket wrapped with bob [sic] wire an [sic] throw him in a lake,” one message read, while another said, “Open up your insides.”

While speculation continues online, the investigation into Nolan’s death remains ongoing. The state of Mississippi’s autopsy results are still pending, but the preliminary results of the independent autopsy commissioned by Nolan’s parents were released on Wednesday, July 22. According to Crump, the cause of death was listed as “undetermined pending investigation.”
