College Cheerleader Kicked Off Team After Being Arrested Twice in 4 Days: ‘Not a Reflection of Our Values’

A Middle Tennessee State University cheerleader was arrested twice in under a week, resulting in her being dismissed from the cheer team.

Kailyn Hasty, a freshman at MTSU, was arrested on Friday, August 28, according to the campus newspaper, MTSU Sidelines, after police responded to a domestic assault call at a local apartment complex. An investigation determined Hasty to be the primary aggressor in the incident and she was taken into custody.

She was released only to be arrested again on Monday, August 31 for violating an order of protection. A police officer pulled over a vehicle for failing to maintain the lane of traffic and found Hasty in the passenger seat with an unnamed driver who reportedly had a protective order against her. She was taken into custody but is no longer at the detention center, the outlet reports.

In a statement to MTSU Sidelines, spirit program coordinator Brooke Legens said Hasty is no longer a member of the cheer team. She revealed that the decision to remove her came after her first arrest and before her second.

“Her actions are not a reflection of our values as a University or Spirit Program,” Legens said. “MTSU Spirit nor I or any of our coaches condone violence in any type and it will never be tolerated. Our athletes work hard year-round to represent our University at the highest level, and we will continue to do so.”

Hasty is still enrolled at the university.
