Michelle Obama just dropped a bombshell about her family’s parenting dynamics — and it’s not what you’d expect!
On August 20, the former first lady, 61, revealed on her IMOpodcast that Barack Obama, 64, found their youngest daughter, Sasha, more “difficult” to raise than big sister, Malia.
The confession has fans buzzing about the Obama family’s private struggles.
“Sasha is like a cat,” Michelle laughed, describing her 24-year-old’s independent streak. “She’s like, ‘Don’t touch me, don’t pet me. I’m not pleasing you. You come to me.'”
Michelle had more revelations about her daughters’ vastly different personalities. While Malia, 27, would charm Barack with her political conversations — literally asking, according to Michelle, to “tell me about Syria” during her teen years — Sasha took a completely different approach.

“Barack’s like, ‘Well, she’s difficult,'” Michelle recalled her husband saying about Sasha. But the Becoming author quickly defended her youngest, explaining that “[Malia] was a pleaser” while Sasha simply had a different temperament.
“You have to be a chameleon” when parenting different personalities, Michelle advised. “Some people parent to one child, or one personality child, but then you have three.”
Despite Barack’s initial struggles with Sasha’s independent nature, today the father-daughter duo are extremely close. On June 10, the former president even took to Instagram to gush about his baby girl on her birthday, proving that patience truly paid off.
“Watching you grow into the incredible woman you are has been a true gift,” he wrote. “I’ll always be proud of you and will always be here for you.”
