Mark Sanchez, a former NFL quarterback and Fox broadcaster, has reached a settlement in the civil lawsuit stemming from an alleged altercation with a truck driver, Perry Tole, in Indianapolis last year.
According to The Athletic, the settlement has been reached in principle, which means it has not yet been signed, with the outlet noting that specifics regarding the agreement are currently unknown.
Per court documents obtained by the outlet in the civil case, 69-year-old Tole’s lawyers will file to dismiss the case by January 8.
As Globe previously reported, the former Jets quarterback, 39, was ousted at Fox after the October 2025 incident, which left Sanchez stabbed and resulted in his arrest. According to a previous report from The Athletic, Sanchez was charged with one felony count of battery resulting in bodily injury and misdemeanor charges of unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, public intoxication endangering the life of another and battery resulting in bodily injury.
The trucker, meanwhile, claimed that he was acting in self-defense and has since sought legal action against Sanchez and Fox Sports.

While Sanchez had to spend several days in the hospital following the stabbing, according to the court documents, Tole also claims to have suffered “significant injuries” to his “head” as well as his “jaw and neck” and is seeking damages as a result.
Sanchez’s brother and legal adviser, Nick, remained hopeful, however, telling CBS News in a September statement that they were “encouraged by the constructive conversations taking place regarding the related civil matter.”
Matt Golitko, the truck driver’s lawyer, also weighed in, adding, “Our discussions have been productive, and we’re on a positive path toward an agreement that will allow the parties to move forward.”
The settlement comes after Sanchez’s legal team filed a motion that same month seeking to enter a guilty plea in the criminal case, after previously pleading not guilty last October. Prosecutors alleged in the September filing that Sanchez was the aggressor in the altercation.
He is scheduled to appear in court in November, though it remains unclear which criminal charges he will plead to.
