Lindsay Clancy Trial Takes Tense Turn as Lawyer Demands Juror Be Removed Over Reasonable Doubt

Even after six days of deliberations, Massachusetts mother Lindsay Clancy‘s murder trial took another tense turn on Thursday.

People reported on Thursday, September 3, that Lindsay’s defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, accused one juror of refusing to follow the law and asked to have the juror removed.

Lindsay, 36, is charged with first-degree murder in the January 2023 killings of her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, inside the family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts, home. While she does not dispute killing them, she has pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility.

On the sixth day of deliberations in the high-profile murder trial, jurors remained unable to reach a unanimous verdict in the closely watched case.

Judge William Sullivan questioned the jurors individually before sending the full panel back to continue deliberating, People reported.

After a lengthy sidebar in Plymouth Superior Court, Reddington said a note from the jury foreperson indicated that one juror “refuses to listen to the law.” He asked Sullivan to remove and replace the juror, but the judge denied the request.

According to CNN, the judge later brought the jurors back into the courtroom together after questioning them individually. He then gave the panel a detailed explanation of the “beyond a reasonable doubt” standard but did not read aloud the note jurors had sent to the court.

“I don’t feel that it is proper for me to side with one side or the other of the deliberations,” Judge William Sullivan said in court. “I don’t feel it’s appropriate for me to say I agree with one juror or 11.”

The jury was then sent back to continue deliberations, which had stretched to nearly 36 hours.

The trial has included testimony from law enforcement, medical providers, and Lindsay’s ex-husband, Patrick Clancy.

No verdict has been reached yet, and the jury has been sent home for another night to deliberate.
