Hugh Jackman is pushing girlfriend Sutton Foster to relocate to his home country of Australia, a source tells Globe, but getting nowhere as she’s refusing to budge from New York City.
“Sutton’s idea that they could just keep being this cozy little Broadway couple and work on their theatre projects indefinitely is proving to be a fantasy,” reveals the source. “Hugh is always going to be a citizen of the world and he’s always going to need regular check-ins back in Australia.”
Jackman, 57, “is a creature of New York too,” adds the source, “but only on a part-time basis and only to stay close to his kids,” Oscar, 26, and Ava, 20, with ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness.
Foster’s daughter is much younger than them, though.
The two-time Tony Award winner, 51, shares 9-year-old Emily with her estranged husband Ted Griffin and “has her own duties as a divorced mom to tend to in the city,” the source says.

Another “reason it’s not a happy relationship at the moment has a lot to do with Hugh’s grand mid-career ambitions,” Globe‘s source reveals.
While Foster is “fine with just being a Broadway star because that’s been her dream since childhood,” notes the source, Jackman “has much bigger, more global plans” for himself.
“The bottom line is, Hugh knows he needs a partner who can really keep up with him and his schedule, without friction, the way his ex Deb was able to do for so many years,” the source says, and “Sutton still has a lot of commitments that keep her from doing that.”
