Fundraiser for Times Square Murder Victim’s Infant Daughter Receives More Than $500K
A fundraiser for Erin Piacenti, the 32-year-old new mother who was stabbed to death in Times Square days ago, has already raised more than $500,000 for her infant daughter.
As of publication on Thursday, September 3, the GoFundMe set up for the Piacenti family has raised $543,176, which is 73 percent of its $750,000 goal.
Piacenti died on August 31, when she was one of two victims stabbed in an unprovoked attack in Times Square. Hours after her death, it was revealed that Piacenti, who was employed as a vice president at Bank of America, was returning to work that day for the first time in five months, after completing her maternity leave.
“Erin’s life was defined not by the circumstances of her death, but instead by the way she lived. Erin was deeply devoted to her family and friends, exceptionally bright and accomplished, and was someone who brought warmth and energy to the people around her,” the GoFundMe page reads.
The fundraiser also revealed that the new mom graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. Her career began as a buyer at Bloomingdale’s before she later graduated from Fordham University School of Law with honors. She worked for some time at Davis Polk before taking on her vice president role at Bank of America.
The fundraiser notes that it is to support Erin and her husband Frank‘s newborn baby, Madison, and “her future.”
“Funds raised will be dedicated to supporting Madison as she grows up surrounded by the family, friends, stories, and memories that will allow her to know just how remarkable her mother was,” the page states.
As Globe previously reported, a woman named Pamela Cisneros stabbed Piacenti in the abdomen, per The New York Times. She was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.
Cisneros, 49, also stabbed a man from Long Island named Tak Kam, who was visiting New York City on Monday. Kam, who is 68, is expected to recover from his injuries.
Cisneros reportedly had a history of mental health issues and was fatally shot by police after threatening them with knives, per the Times.
