Tennessee Mom Arrested After Leaving 4 Toddlers Home Alone to Buy Beer

Keenia Haynes — a mother of eight from Memphis, Tennessee — was taken into custody after two of her children were found unresponsive while being left home alone.

Haynes reportedly left four of her children — a 3-year-old, a 2-year-old and 2-month-old twins — at home with no air conditioning. The two older children were discovered after running into the street and being nearly hit by a car.

“Officers entered the residence and found no adults present,” according to an affidavit obtained by Law & Crime. “Inside, they located two infant twins secured in car seats.”

Upon a search of the house, Memphis officers found both twins strapped into car seats and unresponsive. After being fed by first responders, the twins became responsive.

One of the toddlers was reportedly seen attempting to drink bleach from a bottle found in the kitchen.

“At approximately 3:16 p.m., Keenia Haynes, returned to the residence carrying a beer,” the affidavit revealed. “Haynes stated she had gone to Kroger to purchase food. She claimed she had only been gone approximately 30 minutes.”

Haynes — whose older children ranging in age from 7 to 13 were at school at the time — was arrested and charged with four counts of child neglect. She was scheduled to appear in court on Monday, August 31.
