First Lady Melania Trump Will Skip Rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner

First lady Melania Trump will not be at her husband’s side during the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Friday, July 24.

The White House told Fox News ahead of the redo event that Melania, 56, as well as Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will be sitting out Friday’s celebration due to prior commitments.

The event — which will be held at Washington D.C.’s Waldorf — comes three months after the original event was evacuated due to an alleged gunman who opened fire outside the ballroom.

“She’s aware that there is an inherent risk to her safety being first lady of the United States… but that’s not her focus at all,” Melania’s senior adviser Marc Beckman told People in April. “There are risks to her security and her family’s security. It’s part of being first lady, but she’s confident that the Secret Service will protect her and her family. They’ve been working with her for a long time now.”

In the months since, Melania has continued to attend public events with President Donald Trump, 80, including the UFC fight on the White House Lawn and the FIFA World Cup Final in New Jersey earlier this week.

Beckman added that the First Lady “was not frightened” following the apparent attack and is “not going to be deterred, and she will not stop working as first lady of the United States.”

April’s dinner marked the first time the Apprentice alum was in attendance for a White House Correspondent’s Dinner while holding office. He is also scheduled to be at the make-up event on Friday.

The suspected shooter, Cole Tomas Allen, has pleaded not guilty to charges of attempting to assassinate the president of the United States and other gun charges.
