Erika Kirk Speaks Out About ‘Traumatic’ Correspondents’ Dinner Shooting After Leaving Event in Tears

Erika Kirk has shared a statement after the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

“Saturday was yet another traumatic example of the evil in our country and the continued rise in political violence,” the Turning Point USA CEO, 37, posted on X on Monday, April 27. “I’m taking time to spend with my family.”

“I will be joining The Charlie Kirk Show Wednesday at 12PM ET to briefly address what took place,” she added. “Enough is enough.”

As Globe previously reported, suspected gunman Cole Tomas Allen allegedly rushed a security checkpoint at the dinner, which took place at the Washington D.C. Hilton on Saturday, April 25. Allen, 31, exchanged gunfire with law enforcement and was detained. No one was seriously injured.

Meanwhile, a clip went viral on social media featuring the former pageant queen sobbing as she was escorted out of the hotel, saying, “I just want to go home.”

Users on X took to the comment section to brand Erika as “performative.”

This isn’t the first scary experience Erika has had with gunfire, as her husband, Charlie Kirk, was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University in September.

Additionally, earlier this month, Erika pulled out of a TPUSA speaking engagement at the University of Georgia citing security threats.

“I was so looking forward to tonight’s event at the @universityofga with our Vice President  @JDVance, but after all our family has been through, I take my security team’s recommendations extremely seriously,” Erika explained on X on April 14. “Thank you to our amazing Georgia chapter for your support. God bless you all!”

Caroline Mattox — the former TPUSA chapter president at UGA — subsequently resigned from her role on Wednesday, April 22, posting a statement on Instagram that read in part, “It became abundantly clear to me following our event on April 14th that TPUSA’s mission and purpose have been lost along the way.”
