Dave Portnoymay be Tom Brady’s biggest fan, but even he isn’t on board with the NFL legend’s latest viral revelation.
On Tuesday, November 4, Brady confirmed that he used biotech company Colossal Biosciences — which he also invests in — to clone his late dog Lua, who died in 2023. The announcement came the same day Colossal Biosciences revealed it had acquired another biotech firm, Viagen Pets and Equine.
“I love my animals. They mean the world to me and my family,” the NFL legend, 48, said in a statement shared by People. “A few years ago, I worked with Colossal and leveraged their non-invasive cloning technology through a simple blood draw of our family’s elderly dog before she passed.”
Fans quickly noticed the striking resemblance between Lua and Brady’s current dog, Junie — a pit bull mix who looks nearly identical to the one he once shared with ex-wife,to Gisele Bündchen.

Brady said cloning Lua gave his family a “second chance” to enjoy their “beloved dog,” adding that he’s “excited how Colossal and Viagen’s tech together can help both families losing their beloved pets while helping to save endangered species.”
And it didn’t take long for Portnoy, 48, the founder of Barstool Sports, to weigh in. In classic Portnoy fashion, he shared his opinion on X, posting alongside a Bleacher Report article: “I’m a dog guy and a Brady guy. This is weird as f**k.”

His reaction sparked a flood of responses from fans. “I might do it too, Portnoy!” one X user admitted. “I’d definitely consider it,” another wrote, revealing their own dog is battling cancer.
Others weren’t so forgiving. “What in the actual f**k is he doing?!?” one critic asked. “Seriously, do you think the dog knows he was cloned? Tom Brady has entered the weird zone.”
Portnoy himself is no stranger to making headlines for his love of dogs. After rescuing his pit bull, Miss Peaches — now a viral sensation — the outspoken entrepreneur became an advocate for pet adoption. In 2024, he added another rescue to his pack: Pete the beagle.
