Acting has provided a good life for Ben Affleck and his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner. However, the dad of three doesn’t necessarily want their kids to take up the craft.
Speaking at the premiere of his new movie The Rip, Affleck, 53 — who shares Violet, 20, Seraphina, 17 and Samuel, 13, with Garner, 53 — explained that he feels his and the 13 Going on 30 star’s respective levels of fame have had an impact on their kids’ lives that he hopes does not make them feel like they have to pursue a life in the business.
“You put something on your children when you have a public life and that’s complicated,” he told E! News. “We really want to give them room to figure out what they want to do.”

Affleck went on to gush over his children, saying, “I wouldn’t push them into that. They’re brilliant and lovely and wonderful and we love them and we’re proud of them.” He jokingly added that he hopes “that they don’t waste their life acting.”
The Justice League star further reflected on the leg up their kids would have in the industry by virtue of their name recognition. He explained that he believes coming from nothing helped him and Garner pave their own way.
“In some way, it was kind of a blessing to anonymity, to struggle, to where we started, which was just in the middle of nowhere,” he said.

Currently, Samuel and Seraphina are focusing on school. However, their eldest daughter, Violet, seems to be finding her own path at Yale University in activism. Globe previously reported that she gave a speech at the United Nations calling for stronger mask mandates and clean-air protections.
In September, Violet addressed world leaders at the UN’s Healthy Indoor Air: A Global Call to Action summit, where she urged governments to treat clean air as a human right and condemned adults for abandoning protective measures.
