A “really big turkey” entered an Indiana supermarket last week and began “chasing the customers” and “knocking everything off the shelves,” according to a recording of a 911 call released by police.

The St. Joseph’s County Police Department released body-worn camera video and 911 audio from the incident involving a wild turkey at a Martin’s Super Market in Granger on April 10.

The video shows a wild turkey perched upon a shelf in the store’s pharmacy, with toppled boxes and bottles strewn across the floor, as officers carefully approach with a blanket. One officer slowly approaches and manages to grab the bird. The turkey flaps its wings and tries to fight, but the officer holds on tight and releases it outside the store.

“The good news, no harm, no fowl. The turkey was peacefully escorted off the premises and released completely unharmed,” police said. “Props to all responding officers — especially K9 Officer OKonski, whos now certified in poultry negotiations!”
