Despite being a member of one of the world’s wealthiest families, American taxpayers reportedly footed the $93,000 bill for Ivanka Trump‘s security team during her recent trip to Morocco.
The daughter of President Donald Trump, 45, was spotted by Moroccan news outlet Le360 in the city of Marrakech on October 29, just one day before her birthday. Her trip came shortly after two pricey Secret Service visits to surveil a pair of five-star hotels ahead of time, per a report by the Daily Mail on Thursday, November 5.
Citing federal procurement records, the newspaper reported that a contract for $59,543, dated October 21, was issued for rooms at the Sofitel in Marrakech for a Secret Service team preparing for the arrival of a “VVIP.” Sofitel rates range from $315 per night for standard rooms up to $5,300 or more for high-end suites and penthouses, per the Daily Mail.

Another contract was issued the next day for $33,457 for another Secret Service team at La Mamounia, a hotel that has previously housed the likes of Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela and the Kardashians, per the report, with rates ranging from $440 per night to $8,600 or more for a private villa.
Neither record lists Ivanka by name, according to the Daily Mail, but she is the only Secret Service protectee who was in Morocco around that time. Additionally, the paper noted, Trump family members are regularly described as “VVIPs” in the contracting database.
The Daily Mail reported that the hotel bills reviewed did not include expenses for flights, meals, local transportation, or the salaries of however many agents may have been involved.
A spokesperson for Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, told the Daily Mail they did not have an immediate comment. Ivanka’s net worth is $100 million, per Forbes, while Kushner’s is $1 billion.

A source close to the family reminded the Daily Mail that Secret Service protection is available to “every child and grandchild of the president,” adding, “The Iranians said they wanted to kill her, wouldn’t you want the best protection possible?”
The comment is in reference to a May report of an Iran-linked Iraqi militant threat to assassinate the first daughter for the 2020 killing of Iranian military chief Qasem Soleimani, as detailed by the New York Post at the time.
“From a Secret Service standpoint, we’re always with our protectees,” a source from that organization told the Daily Mail, but they declined to say anything specific about Ivanka’s trip.
As Globe previously reported, Ivanka recently faced social media heat for photos she shared October 28 from a stay at The Inn at Little Washington in Virginia, where rooms range from $720 to $5,710 per night.
Ivanka kept her commentary on the post to one word: “Autumn.” One commenter kept it almost as succinct in their reply: “Gas > $5/gallon.”
