First Lady Melania Trump’s public statement denying a rumored friendship with late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein came as a surprise to many.
According to a Thursday, April 9, report on journalist Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack, President Donald Trump “didn’t know this was happening until just before she walked out,” a source claimed.
“He was briefed late — very late,” the source alleged. “This was not coordinated in the usual way. People were blindsided. No leaks, no rollout — nothing.”
Melania began her remarks by stating, “The lies linking me with the disgraceful Jeffrey Epstein need to end today. The individuals lying about me are devoid of ethical standards, humility and respect.”
During the address, she refuted rumors that Epstein — who died in his jail cell in August 2019 at age 66 — introduced her to the Apprentice alum. Melania also said that she “never had a relationship with Epstein or his accomplice [Ghislaine] Maxwell,” adding that her email communications with Maxwell “cannot be categorized as anything more than casual correspondence.”
One of Shuter’s sources claimed that Melania is “getting ahead of information,” adding: “There’s a belief more could come out — and she wanted her version on record first.”

The Naughty But Nice report also mentioned that a woman by the name of Amanda Ungaro may come into play. (The New York Times reported, via People, that Ungaro — who allegedly arrived in the States on Epstein’s plane in 2002 — was deported; her ex-boyfriend Paolo Zampolli has ties to the Trumps.)
“Amanda knows everything,” an insider told Shuter. “She may have been deported — but she hasn’t been silenced. She has nothing to lose. And that makes people nervous.”
As for the first lady, “Melania stepping out like this wasn’t random,” the insider said. “It was calculated.”
“She’s protecting her name. On her terms,” the source added. “This wasn’t damage control. This was preemptive.”
Following Melania’s remarks, the president allegedly had a phone call with MS NOW and told the news network he did not know about her statement ahead of time, adding that “she didn’t know [Epstein].”
