Olivia Wilde is addressing the viral photo that left fans speculating months ago about her health after she appeared on the red carpet at the San Francisco International Film Festival.

During the Wednesday, June 17, episode of Call Her Daddy, the actress and director, 42, recalled seeing the photo for the first time and assuming it wouldn’t attract much attention.

“We did the [red carpet], and then I saw that picture and I was like, ‘Alright, but it probably won’t go very far. No one’s going to see this,'” Wilde said. “And then suddenly it was [expletive] everywhere. And I was like, ‘Oh, my God.'”

The photo quickly spread online, prompting a wave of reactions. Some people expressed concern for Wilde’s wellbeing, while others made jokes about her appearance, with commenters claiming she looked ill or even “dying.”

Wilde, however, took the situation in stride.

“All of us have had this situation where you take a bad picture,” she explained, adding, “Imagine if then it was in, like, a hundred million people’s phones and you’re like, ‘Oh no! That is not how I actually look.’ I laughed so hard.”

The actress credited her close friends for helping her keep a sense of humor about the situation.

“The thing that is great about having really good friends is that they are the ones to laugh the hardest,” she shared. “I guarantee any joke that’s been made about me, my friends have made it first, in a much funnier way.”

Wilde, however, did note that it was an example of the internet not knowing “how to talk about a woman.” Still, she agreed the picture “was so crazy.”

“People were diagnosing me with Graves disease and I was like, ‘Wow.’ Megyn Kelly did an entire segment about how much I looked dead. I was like, ‘Alright [expletive], you’ll do anything to not talk about eliminating the equal rights amendment or the voting rights act.”

Despite the intense attention, Wilde said she ultimately laughed about the photo later with her brother and understood why it caught people’s attention.

“That one, I’ll hand it to them. I, too, would’ve been like, ‘Is she OK?,” adding, “You have to learn to laugh at all this [expletive.]”
