Melania Trump disappeared from the spotlight for over a month, but she recently returned and couldn’t help but poke fun at the public’s curiosity regarding her whereabouts.
“Good afternoon. I heard you missed me,” the First Lady, 56, said at the beginning of her speech at the White House Rose Garden on Thursday, August 20. “Here I am.”
During her time at the podium, Melania spoke about her Fostering the Future program and announced plans to expand the initiative with the help of a $2 million donation from IndyCar and Fox Corporation. The money will be used to fund scholarships at Indiana University and Purdue University, according to the White House.
Melania’s absence has been a hot topic of conversation recently as Thursday marked her first public appearance in 32 days.

She was last seen alongside her husband, PresidentDonald Trump, at the FIFA World Cup final on July 19 and has really reeled back her appearances throughout his second term. According to a report from the Daily Beast, Melania has only made public appearances on just 38 days throughout all of 2026, which averages out to be about one appearance every six days.
Her vanishing act even became the punchline of some late-night television jokes. Jimmy Fallon commented about the missing first lady during the Monday, August 17, episode of The Tonight Show.
“Trump heard [about her absence] and said, ‘Big deal, I haven’t seen her in private in two years,’” Fallon, 51, quipped.
However, Melania wasn’t exactly missing. The New York Post reported that she spent much of the summer at the Trump family’s Bedminster, New Jersey, property with her son, Barron, 20, while he was on break from college.
