A woman in New York is facing up to 25 years in prison after blowing her boyfriend’s hand off with dynamite.

Keyonna Waddell and her boyfriend were arguing in his apartment in March 2024 when he asked her to leave, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

After going to bed, the man “was awoken by a hissing sound and saw a flame on the floor of his bedroom,” the district attorney’s office said.

“Upon getting up, he realized that an object resembling a stick of dynamite had been thrown into his bedroom.  He attempted to extinguish the explosive device, which was unsuccessful,” the statement explained.

The stick of dynamite exploded in his hand before he could throw it out of the room, leaving him without part of his limb.

“He ran to the end of the driveway and observed Waddell fleeing the scene on foot,” according to the D.A.

According to prosecutors, Waddell had previously threatened her boyfriend with dynamite.

Waddell was found guilty of first-degree assault and first-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to prosecutors. She is scheduled to be sentenced in May.
