Former Louisiana mayor Misty Roberts was sentenced to just 90 days in jail after being convicted of having sex with a 16-year-old boy — and now the victim’s mother is making headlines for the blistering remarks she delivered in court.
Roberts, 44, the former mayor of DeRidder, Louisiana, was sentenced on Tuesday, June 9, after being found guilty of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behavior with a juvenile, both felonies, multiple outlets, including local KPLC, reported.
The victim’s mother made her feelings toward Roberts crystal clear during her courtroom statement, saying the night Roberts seduced her teenage son at a birthday party was “the kind of night that should have ended in laughter and memories.”
Instead, she alleged, her son became the target of a sexual predator.
“This predator was not hiding in a van carrying candy or a puppy. This danger came from a predator with hair extensions, high heels, Botox, and other modifications,” she said, according to the outlet.
The victim’s mother also took aim at Roberts’ defense team.

“The attorneys you hired claimed we put your kids on the stand. Oh no, Miss, that’s you. My heart broke for all the kids that we forced to relive that night.”
She went on to accuse Roberts’ legal team of dishonesty during the proceedings, saying they “flat-out lied” and were “very disrespectful throughout this trial.”
She added that half of her son’s high school experience “was taken away from him,” before telling Roberts to “stay the hell away from my family.”
Roberts had been facing 17 years behind bars for sexually abusing the teen, who was reportedly a friend of her son.
As Globe previously reported, Roberts resigned as the mayor of DeRidder, a town of roughly 9,800 residents, after throwing a pool party for her son’s birthday in 2024 where teens were allegedly drinking alcohol.
The state had sought the maximum 17-year sentence. In addition to serving 90 days in jail, Roberts will remain a registered sex offender, undergo regular drug screenings and psychological therapy, as well as pay a $5,000 fine. She also received two five-year suspended sentences, according to People.
Roberts addressed the court, admitting wrongdoing for her actions.
“What an embarrassment I’ve been to this city,” she said, according to KPLC. “I’ve made a mess of all of this, but it certainly was not my intent.”
