Megyn Kelly Reveals Her Theory on What Really Happened to Nolan Wells After His Friends Left

Megyn Kelly is sharing her thoughts on Nolan Wells‘ disappearance.

On the Friday, July 24, episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, the TV host, 55, spoke with fellow journalist Chris Hansen, where she revealed her theory on what she thinks really happened to the 18-year-old after he disappeared following a 4th of July outing to Mississippi’s Horn Island.

As Globe previously reported, Wells was found dead in the water near the island two days later following an extensive search.

“I’m pretty sure we’re going to get a diagnosis of accidental death by drowning. That’s that’s where my money is,” Kelly said Friday.

Hansen, 66, meanwhile, had other thoughts, telling the former Fox News reporter that you can’t rule out “any possibility just yet.”

“The thing about investigations like this is that if you rule out any possibility, or if you focus exclusively on one potential outcome to the exclusion of others, you’re going to miss some leads. So they have to keep an open mind. I do respect the sanctity of the grand jury and the fact that they’re not saying a whole lot about it, as opposed to some other recent investigations we saw, like in the Nancy Guthrie case, where the sheriff was having separate interviews with separate media at separate times of the day,” Hansen shared.

“But in this case, at least there appears to be some investigative integrity in terms of not igniting this thing into a situation,” he continued.

When it comes to the potential race element, with some politicians, including Rep. Jonathan Jackson, telling TMZ he believes there is a racial component to Wells’ death, Hansen is also unsure, as he questioned why Wells would be invited to hang out with all his “white friends” if they only had something nefarious in mind.

“It may not be racism. If there was racism, then why does a kid who’s Black get invited to go hang out with all his white friends?” he wondered. “Was there some horrible guy on the island who took issue with something that Nolan did?”

“Something horrible happened,” he continued. “A cover up… you can’t exclude any of that, but there’s certainly no evidence that that did happen, and I don’t think his immediate friends give off the vibe of being in collusion to cover up something evil. At least I don’t see it at this point.”

Kelly, for her part, shot down the race claims, slamming Rep. Jackson, 44, who is the son of the late Jesse Jackson, for his comments.

“We can’t rule out that somebody on the island may have done something to Nolan,” Kelly went on to say. “But this knee-jerk blame the friends, as you heard Congressman Jackson do specifically citing the fact that they are white, is just outrageous.”

Wells’ friends have been at the center of the investigation as of late, with his best friend, Warren Hudson, sharing details about the 4th of July outing in an interview with conservative commentator Brandon Tatum on The Officer Tatum YouTube channel.

In the video, published on Thursday, July 23, Hudson recalled the moment he realized Wells was missing and called his mother, Christine Wonsley. Hudson said he last saw Wells around 3 p.m. on July 4 and became concerned after none of their friends had heard from him later that evening. After learning Wonsley hadn’t heard from her son either, Hudson said he told her, “Alright, well, don’t freak out. I’m going to call the Coast Guard.”

When Tatum questioned why he didn’t first assume Wells had stayed at someone else’s house, Hudson said growing up on the water made him acutely aware of the dangers.

“Stuff happens. People die all the time. I know people that have died out there,” he said, adding that he’d “rather call the Coast Guard 100 times” and have his friend be safe than wait and risk something being wrong.

While Kelly shared her frustrations over the many “wagging tongues” she says are weighing in amid Wells’ death, investigators have so far only said they suspect drowning as the cause.

They have not, however, released an official cause of death, and the case remains under investigation.
