Tenisha Warner, the widow of Malcolm-Jamal Warner, is speaking out about her priorities after his death.

In a teaser clip shared on X ahead of her CBS Mornings interview with Gayle King, Tenisha hinted that there is tension between her and her late husband’s family.

The interview was conducted before Tenisha, 48, filed a lawsuit on July 20, the one-year anniversary of Malcolm’s death. In her lawsuit, Tenisha is seeking over a million dollars from her husband’s family trust, which is governed by his mother, Pamela Warner.

King, 71, asked about Tenisha and Pamela’s relationship prior to knowing anything about the lawsuit or any tension between them. Tenisha confirmed Pamela is based in Los Angeles before glossing over details of their relationship.

“Yeah. You know, right now, everybody, like all of his family members and who have lost him, they are grieving. You know, it’s been the biggest loss for all of us,” Tenisha replied.

When King assumed that Tenisha and her daughter — 9-year-old MacKenzie, whom she shared with Malcolm — are “a unit,” Tenisha agreed.

“Yeah,” she said, before explaining that she and her daughter are her priorities right now.

“Look, you know, the emotional capacity that I have can be very limited sometimes, you know? And so, I have to for myself decide what do I have to give right now in this moment,” Tenisha said.

“And whatever I have to give, the first person to get that is my daughter, and then the second is myself,” she continued.

The full interview is scheduled to air on Thursday, July 23. King warned viewers that she questioned Tenisha about her mother-in-law prior to having any knowledge about their relationship.

“We did this interview without knowing about this lawsuit. I was really just asking this question in passing because Pamela had spoken out — she and her son were very, very, very close,” King, 71, said.

Meanwhile, reports on Tuesday, July 21, confirmed Tenisha had filed lawsuits in both California and Georgia seeking more than $1.2 million from Malcolm’s family trust.

In the Georgia lawsuit, Tenisha alleged she and her late husband signed a premarital agreement in 2022 claiming they agreed to secure a $1 million life insurance policy, which named her as the sole beneficiary according to People. He never obtained the policy.

Malcolm was best known for playing Theo Huxtable for all eight seasons of The Cosby Show from 1984 to 1992. The Warner Family Trust was formed in 1996 and is currently run by Malcolm’s mother, Pamela.

On Monday, July 20, a lengthy statement was shared to Pamela’s Instagram account.

And on Tuesday, via her spokesperson Angela Marriot, Tenisha said: “For the last year, I have attempted to privately settle my beloved husband’s complicated estate and honor his last wishes. Malcolm had every intention to provide for our nine-year-old daughter and me.”

Per People, Tenisha added that the late actor was “close to finalizing a new estate plan” to replace the trust he established in 1996, but “was unable to do so before we lost him.”

Tenisha concluded that she has been “struggling” to care for their daughter as a single mother. “Legally, I had no choice but to take action to protect our rights before any potential statute of limitations expired.”

As Globe previously reported, Malcolm accidentally drowned in Costa Rica on July 20, 2025. He was 54.
