Jason Bateman broke his silence after receiving major backlash for assuring Charli xcx that she “could change” her mind about not wanting to have children one day.
The Horrible Bosses star, 57, made the comment when the singer, 33, was a guest on his SmartLess podcast on February 2, suggesting that it might make a difference if she met “somebody” — only to be told that she was already married to George Daniel.
The Arrested Development alum finally addressed the awkward exchange during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, which was published Wednesday, February 18.

“We were having a great conversation about her life growing up as an only child. It seemed like a very natural follow-up to that. That’s all it was,” Bateman told the outlet.
Bateman — who shares two daughters, Francesca, 19, and Maple, 13, with his wife, Amanda Anka — added, “I don’t really have much [else] to say about it, except that it is always interesting and valuable and educational to hear people’s thoughts, reactions and feelings to anything I say or do.”
