An injured hiker was rescued by helicopter from Nevada’s Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Sunday night, officials said.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue (LVMPDSAR) said its AIR1 helicopter crew responded at around 7 p.m. Sunday to a report of an injured hiker on the Calico 1 trail at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

Two hikers were returning along the trail when one of them “lost their footing” and sustained a lower leg injury, LVMPDSAR said. The Clark County Fire Department initially responded to the call, hiking in to meet the patient, as well as the Las Vegas Fire Department.

When AIR1 arrived at the scene, an SAR officer was lowered to prep the patient to be hoisted, packing them into a “hot seat.”

A video shared by LVMPDSAR shows the hiker being hoisted to the helicopter. The hiker was flown to a Bureau of Land Management fire station, where an ambulance was waiting to transport the hiker to a hospital.
