As the fifth anniversary of the COVID-19 lockdowns arrives this week, the work-from-home and hybrid models that emerged during the pandemic are still thriving within many industries, but there is growing pressure for workers to return to their offices.

Cali Williams Yost, a veteran author and consultant, has been guiding companies towards more flexible work arrangements for nearly two decades. Her insights have been particularly sought after as employers navigate the pandemic’s lasting impacts, after many white-collar employees worked “remotely” for the very first time.

“We need to educate leaders and managers that mandating a ‘return to office’ policy doesnt support business strategy nor does it help retain or inspire employees to do their best work,” Yost said.

“Designing your companys approach to flexible work with specific intent not only impacts the business success of the company, but also defines a new company culture,” said Yost. “No matter if your employees are Gen X or Gen Z, having an intentional plan that is designed for your company or team will create a productive and supportive workplace.”

Yost advises companies across the country, and as the conversation around remote work continues to evolve, she remains a pivotal voice, advocating for a balanced integration of flexibility and productivity in the workplace.
