HGTV Mother-Daughter Duo Karen E. Laine and Mina Starsiak Hawk Reconcile Years After Public Feud

HGTV star Mina Starsiak Hawk reunited with her mom and former business partner, Karen E. Laine, two years after their public feud.

The Good Bones star opened up to People about repairing her strained relationship with Laine, revealing it is a work in progress.

“It took us a lot of time to get there,” Starsiak Hawk said of their falling out. “So I think it takes a lot of time to kind of get out of it as well. We were all together for the holidays, so we’re all amicable. We’re not like best friends that braid each other’s hair on Saturday nights or anything, but no, it’s good.”

Starsiak Hawk and Laine spent eight seasons renovating homes around Indianapolis before the show came to an end in 2023.

“There were definitely some challenging [moments] because my mom and I were in some of the most challenging places I felt we’ve been,” Starsiak Hawk told People in September 2023 of filming the final season.

“I was like, ‘I wonder if anyone’s going to be able to tell,’” she added. “And of course, you can’t because that’s the idea. People . . . that’s not why they’re tuning in to watch Good Bones. That’s not what they want.”

Starsiak Hawk later revealed that she and Laine were not on speaking terms, and she had even decided not to invite her mom to her son’s birthday party.

“I think I knew … that this was going to be hard and it was going to challenge relationships, because when you put anything under a spotlight, in a pressure cooker, there’s the opportunity to explode,” she said on her podcast, Mina AF, in October 2023, per People. “And I myself am not stable enough to not explode at times.”
