As more restaurants update their menus to align with the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement’s campaign against seed oils, health expert Efrat LaMandre shares the science behind the changes.

Efrat LaMandre, PhD, FNP-C, a certified family nurse practitioner known on social media as “Dr. E, the NP with the PhD,” says seed oils like canola and soybean go through high heat and chemical processing, creating harmful byproducts that fuel inflammation.

New and revised ingredient rules proposed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration aim to close loopholes and bring more transparency to whats in our food, LaMandre says.

LaMandre, author of the best-selling book, “It’s Not In Your Head,” about medical gaslighting and the legitimacy of patient symptoms, has more than 670,000 TikTok followers and millions of views. She uses her platform to educate the public about nutrition and other health topics.

Aside from seed oils, LaMandre highlights the broader impact of certain food additives, linking them to hormone disruption, gut inflammation, insulin resistance, and even cognitive issues like ADHD.

She maintains that while whole, unprocessed foods can mitigate inflammation and other illnesses, misleading “healthy” labels can deceive consumers.

“Just because it says organic, low-fat, or plant-based doesnt mean its good for you,” LaMandre says. “The best diet is one that skips the labels and focuses on real, whole foods.”

Along with using her social media platform to spread awareness on health issues and advocate for the improvement of national food standards, LaMandre owns a medical practice in New York and serves as Chair of the Staten Island Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees.
