Gayle King was caught off guard by a revelation about the lone holdout juror in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial.
King, 71, was interviewing juror Paula Devlin on CBS Mornings on Friday, September 11, when their conversation turned to the makeup of the 12-person jury. Devlin explained that the panel consisted of nine women and three men, with 11 white jurors and one person of color.
“Was the person of color a woman or a man?” King asked.
After Devlin said the juror was a man, King sought clarification.
“Woah, I have to sit with that for just a second,” King said. She then paused for a moment before continuing the interview. Devlin later estimated that the holdout juror was in his 30s.

Clancy, 36, was charged with murdering her three young children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, at their Duxbury, Massachusetts, home in January 2023. Her defense did not deny she strangled the kids, but maintained that she was not criminally responsible because she was suffering from postpartum psychosis, while prosecutors argued that she planned the killings and understood right from wrong.
The trial ended in a mistrial on September 4, after more than seven days of deliberations. Several jurors have since said the final vote was 11-1 in favor of finding Clancy not responsible, with the lone holdout voting for a murder conviction.
Devlin told King that deliberations initially began with eight jurors believing Clancy was not responsible, two undecided and two favoring a guilty verdict. “I was leaning towards not responsible from all the evidence I had heard,” she shared on CBS. “And I had certain things I wanted to look at when we got into deliberation. Everything that we talked about and every point that everybody in the room made just kind of reinforced that more and more.”
“She’s strong. She has incredible family support,” Reddington, 75, said, per NBC News. “But she is suicidal. I mean, she’s on 24/7, one-on-one suicide watch. I worry about her every day.”
Reddington has since filed a motion asking the judge to throw out the mistrial and acquit Clancy. Devlin does not support that outcome, despite believing Clancy was not guilty by reason of insanity. “I don’t feel good about that,” she told King, during the interview. “Part of the reason why we wanted ‘not responsible’ was that everybody wants justice for the children.”
The motion is scheduled to be heard at a September 29 status hearing. Prosecutors have not announced whether they will retry the case.
