Racing cyclists escaped serious injuries after being sent flying when an elderly woman rolled her motorized scooter into their path during a race in Germany on Sunday, June 14.
The elderly woman, who has not been identified, was hoping to find a better view to take in the Saarland Trofeo Juniors race, when viral footage shared on X showed her rolling into the roadway, causing a disastrous pileup.
“A very nasty looking crash but it looks like I got away with it relatively well and with no major injuries,” one cyclist shared via social media. “Sad to have to DNF this Saarland Trofeo this way due to an old lady who was just living in her own world.”

“Even a small step onto the road can have serious consequences at these speeds,” Los Brolin, a cycling commentator, said, per The Telegraph. “This was not even the first incident of this kind during the race. Junior racing is already dangerous enough without spectators making it even more dangerous.”
According to the outlet, a number of cyclists were impacted by the collision, but none were seriously injured.
Sindre Orholm-Lønseth, an 18-year-old cyclist from Norway, ultimately won the race.
