A political future might not be completely out of the question for Dave Portnoy.
The Barstool Sports owner, 49, appeared on the Thursday, July 16, episode of the Business of Betting podcast, and he was asked if had been approached by “real people” who wanted him to get involved in politics.
“If I wanted to run for mayor of New York, I could have the biggest war chest probably in the history of political war chests,” Portnoy replied. “I have billionaire after billionaire willing to fund a campaign if I was going to do it.”
He also added that the requests came completely “unsolicited,” which he chalked up to his belief that “no one wants to do it.”

This isn’t the first time Portnoy has been asked whether or not he would get involved in politics. Last month, the pizza reviewer appeared on Fox News and reporter Jesse Watters asked him about his political ambitions after discussing some of their concerns about New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
“I’ve always thought I would never get involved in politics,” Portnoy explained during the June 29 interview. “I think you can do more in the private sector. I was saying to you that old Plato quote, ‘If you don’t do your public service and run for office, you’re doomed to be run by, basically, dummies,’ and right now, I feel like that’s what’s happening.”
