Brad Pitt’s mother, Jane Etta Pitt, was reportedly estranged from his children he shared with ex-wife Angelina Jolie in the years leading up to her death at 84.

A resurfaced photo obtained by the Globe revealed Jane posing alongside Brad, 61, Angelina, 50, their kids, and other members of the family at a reunion that took place in Shawnee, Oklahoma, around 2009. Also pictured in the family snapshot is the Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood actor’s late grandmother, Betty.

Brad and Angelina began dating in 2004, and 10 years later, they tied the knot. They share six children together – Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. However, the Maleficent star filed for divorce in 2016 after an alleged incident that took place between her and Brad on an international flight from Paris to Los Angeles.

Their tumultuous divorce and snowballing legal battles reportedly led to a “heartbreaking” separation between the kids and their paternal grandparents in the years that followed, according to the Daily Mail.

“Prior to the separation, they were a part of the kids’ lives and they all spent a lot of time together,” an insider revealed in 2024. “It is just heartbreaking to see that this is no longer the case.”

“It is one thing for the kids to not see their father, but for Jane and Bill to not have any contact with their precious grandkids is sad,” the insider continued. “They are in their 80s and to think that they would never be able to spend time with the kids again is just unbelievable.”

Roughly one year later, Jane’s passing was confirmed by her granddaughter, Sydney Pitt.

“We were not ready for you to go yet but knowing you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a tad easier,” she wrote in a heartfelt tribute shared to Instagram on Tuesday, August 6.

Sydney went on to fondly describe her grandmother as someone who “cared deeply for everyone” and had the “biggest heart.”

“She could keep up with all 14 of us grandkids without missing a beat. There was no limit to the love she gave, and everyone who met her felt it,” she said. “I don’t know how we move forward without her. But I know she’s still here in every brushstroke, every kind gesture, every hummingbird. She was love in its purest form.”
