Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is not dwelling on the fact that he was not inducted into the Hall of Fame during his first year of eligibility.
“I’m focused on coaching this team and focused on getting Carolina football to the highest level I can,” Belichick, 73, said about the topic during a press conference following a spring football practice on Tuesday, March 24, according to the Fayetteville Observer. “That’s what I’ve always … I focus about what I can do. Things that are out of my control, I don’t worry about.”
Belichick is largely considered one of the greatest football coaches of all time, having won eight Super Bowls throughout his career. Six of those championship rings come from his time with the New England Patriots and Tom Brady.
The former star quarterback, 48, shared a note with Hall of Fame voter Armando Salguero in January, reacting to the snub, “I don’t believe that any coach in the history of the game has done more to earn his place in the Hall of Fame than Bill Belichick.”
“To say that he was my greatest coaching influence would be an understatement. His tremendous leadership, vision, and daily discipline allowed our team to excel in nearly every area for almost two decades,” Brady added.

Other NFL stars like Patrick Mahomes and JJ Watt shared similar sentiments. However, the outrage was bigger than football, as NBA great LeBron James shared his shock via social media.
“Man there’s no way I read that right! Right? Ain’t no WAY Bill Belichick ain’t 1st Ballot HOF!! That’s IMPOSSIBLE, EGREGIOUS, and quite frankly DISRESPECTFUL!” James wrote at the time.
Belichick’s NFL career came to an end after the 2023 season. He ultimately signed on to coach the University of North Carolina football team in December 2024.
