Woman Admits to Throwing Glass Jar of Vegan Mayonnaise at Stranger’s Face During Road Rage Incident

A road rage incident took a violent turn when a woman threw a jar of vegan mayonnaise at a complete stranger, prompting the victim to suffer face lacerations.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, in August, Christine Sweet was traveling as a passenger in a vehicle that cut off another car. Sweet then “initiated a road rage incident” by shouting profanities at the other driver. When her car slowed down, Sweet’s driver pulled parallel to the vehicle they’d cut off and she decided to escalate the situation even further.

Sweet, 57, allegedly hurled a glass jar of vegan mayonnaise Veganaise from her car, striking the driver in the face and cutting her under the eye. The police say Sweet reportedly yelled, “I hit her in the face, go, go, go!”

Sweet didn’t get away for long. On Friday, September 18, police were able to arrest her after the vehicle she was in during the incident was located. Body camera video from the arrest shows Sweet explaining what “veganaise” is to the officer, although she mispronounced that and the word “vegan” throughout the video. She also admitted to throwing the jar and was taken into custody.

Veganaise is a plant-based, dairy- and egg-free alternative to regular mayonnaise designed for use by people on a vegan diet.

“You just can’t throw mayo at someone,” the arresting officer tells her in the footage, shared on Facebook, as he places her in handcuffs.

Records show she was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She has since been released from jail after posting her $20,000 bond.
