Tiger Woods Shifts Focus from Fairways to Fatherhood After Injury Setback

Links legend Tiger Woods is ready to pass the torch of golf greatness to the next generation, specifically his son, Charlie, say sources.

Once a dominant force on the PGA tour, Tiger’s clean-cut image was battered by scandal and his body ravaged by injury. His latest setback, an Achilles tendon rupture, has indefinitely put on hold one of the sport’s most celebrated careers. So, sources say he’s now focused on coaching Charlie in a bid to turn him into a superstar.

According to sources, Tiger, 49, is giving Charlie, 16, all the tough love his late dad and mentor, Earl, gave to him when he was young.

“Charlie is making great strides in the golf world,” declares an insider. “He’s right on track to become a huge name in his own right. Tiger is super proud.”

Father and son are said to spend a lot of time on the range practicing, with the 15-time majors champ passing along tips, offering constructive criticism and
occasionally giving his son an encouraging pat on the back.

“He gets huge joy seeing Charlie’s success,” notes our source. “What makes it poignant is that Tiger is on the downslope of his remarkable career. Even if he’s not finished yet, there’s no doubt he’s getting close to the end!”

As GLOBE readers know, Tiger was hospitalized in 2021 after a car crash left him with multiple fractures of his right leg and serious foot injuries.

He’s also endured six back surgeries and at least five more on his knees. And while prepping for another shot at the Masters, which he’s won five times, his Achilles gave out, ruining any chances of him playing in Augusta, or likely anywhere else, this year.

Tiger underwent surgery in Florida March 11 and is recovering, though it’s not certain how long it will take before he can play again.

“He’s obviously bummed about the Achilles situation, but he still plans on getting out there and swinging when he can,” says the insider. “It surely won’t be for a while, and it will be a struggle with that kind of injury.

“Meanwhile, he’s channeling his energy into Charlie just like his dad did with him. He’s even using some of the same tactics. It’s a circle of life kind of thing.”
