Before she died on a Carnival Horizon cruise ship on Friday, November 7, Anna Kepner, 18, had reason to fear her 16-year-old stepbrother, who was named in unrelated court documents as a ‘suspect’ in the FBI investigation, according to a new report on Inside Edition.
“She was scared of [her stepbrother] because he always carried around a big knife,” Steven Weston, who claims to be the father of Anna’s boyfriend, Joshua, alleged to the outlet in a story posted on Thursday, November 20.
“He’s like infatuated, attracted to her like crazy. He always wanted to date her,” Weston claimed, adding that after Anna fell asleep once during a FaceTime call, Joshua allegedly “saw her stepbrother come into the room when she was sleeping and get on top of her.”
“He said dad I tried to tell the parents that this was happening and they didn’t want to believe me,” Weston said.

As Globe previously reported, Anna’s body was found under a bed in a cabin on the ship. She had been on vacation with her father, Chris and her 14-year-old brother, as well as Chris’s partner, Shauntel Hudson, and her 16-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter.
According to a legal filing made by Shauntel’s ex, Thomas Hudson, regarding custody of their kids, the 16-year-old “is now a suspect in the death” of the Titusville, Florida, high school senior.
