Supermodel Christie Brinkley Reveals Billy Joel’s Drinking and Disappearances Destroyed Their Marriage

Supermodel Christie Brinkley isn’t bottling up her feelings about ex-husband Billy Joel — she’s claiming she gave the hitmaker the heave-ho nearly 35 years ago because of his uncontrollable drinking problem.

The glamorous cover girl made the admission in her new memoir, Uptown Girl, which shares its title with the 1983 tune that Billy wrote in her honor.

Christie, 71, was married to the now-sober Piano Man, 76, from 1985 to 1994, and the friendly exes share daughter Alexa Ray Joel, 39.

The bombshell says, “I do think that we were probably really soulmates. It was an amazing time of my life. I had so much fun. We were such nomads, gypsies — just between his job and mine, we were seeing the world. It was wonderful.”

But Christie says her dream life with Billy had nightmarish moments when he’d go on lengthy disappearances during benders. She claims the singer even left Alexa’s fifth birthday bash and vanished for two days.

She admits that she had “visions of his car wrapped around a tree” and developed “a panic I couldn’t shake.”

Christie recalls the troublemaking tippler once trotted off during one of their Thanksgiving feasts.

The fashionista also shares that she once locked Billy out of their hotel suite in Hawaii after a friend told her there were pics of her hubby out with an Australian actress.

Christie claims Billy returned “visibly and audibly drunk,” picked up a lounge chair and hurled it through a glass patio door.

But she says her breaking point came when “delusional” Joel popped off at his band at the couple’s East Hampton home — accusing the musicians of eating his meal, when he had scarfed it down himself.

“Booze was the other woman,” she shares. “And it was beginning to seem that he preferred to be with her rather than me.”

Still, Christie confides, “I’ll love him forever.”
