Gangsta songbird Kehlani sang her way out of a plum gig at Cornell University’s end-of-year concert with controversial lyrics in her tune Next 2 U, where she warbles “long live the intifada,” the Arab word used by anti-Israel groups meaning “resistance” or “uprising.” The 30-year-old California-born singer was also seen in a clip wearing a keffiyeh, an Arab headdress, in front of a Palestinian flag.

Cornell President Michael Kotlikoff booted Kehlani from the Slope Day concert, saying: “I have heard grave concerns from our community that many are angry, hurt, and confused that Slope Day would feature a performer who has espoused antisemitic, anti-Israel sentiments … While any artist has the right … to express hateful views, Slope Day is about uniting our community, not dividing it.” Responding to the backlash, Kehlani says, “I am not antisemitic, nor anti-Jew. I am anti-genocide.”
