An Arizona police officer and an off-duty firefighter jumped into action Tuesday to rescue a woman who was trapped in a burning vehicle.

The Chandler Police Department shared body-worn camera video from Motor Officer Brian Larison as he stopped to assist at the crash site on U.S. 60 in Mesa, southeast of Phoenix, Tuesday evening.

The video shows multiple people trying unsuccessfully to break a window on the burning vehicle, which was turned on its side, as Larison arrives with a police baton. While he uses it to break the window, a bystander appears to use a small fire extinguisher to combat the flames.

“I raked the window to try to get her out, and as she started to step out, the truck fell back on all four tires,” Larison said in a voiceover accompanying the footage.

“For some reason, I looked out of the corner of my eye and there’s this off-duty fireman, and he’s got all his fire-retardant gear on,” Larison said. “So I go up and I’m like, ‘dude, go get her, get her out.’ And so he got her out of the truck.”

The video shows Larison and the off-duty Peoria firefighter carrying the woman to the median, safely away from the burning truck

“I’m glad you’re here, brother,” Larison can be heard saying to the firefighter.

“Bro, I was just going to work,” the firefighter says.

“This is the kind of dedication and bravery our officers bring to the job every day,” police said.
