The Ohio Department of Transportation said a hit-and-run driver fled after rear-ending a snow plow Sunday as it worked to clear roads after heavy snow.

The Ohio Department of Transportation’s District 3, which serves several counties in north-central Ohio, said the snow plow driver was not injured when his rig was rear-ended on Sunday.

“We are all in a hurry, but during a snow and ice event, road conditions can change quickly,” the agency said. “Be extra alert, especially when the snow is falling. An inicident [sic] like this results in one less plow truck out on the roadway.”

According to WHIO-TV, ODOT Press Secretary Matt Bruning said this was the 36th snow plow struck this winter.

Much of northern Ohio was under winter storm warnings and advisories on Sunday with 4–8 inches of snow forecast.

“Motorists should give our plows plenty of space to do their job,” ODOT said. “You will likely find the road in front of the plow worse than the road behind them. We cant be everywhere all the time. Heavy snow is difficult to keep up with, so plan ahead and allow for extra travel time during and immediately after snow events.”
