No one was injured in an explosion at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Virginia early Friday, officials said.

The Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Radford, Va., which manufactures explosives and propellants for a variety of military weapons systems, said the explosion occurred in the ammunition production area at around 12:30 a.m. Friday.

There were no injuries in the explosion thanks to “the safety standards in place at the installation,” the plant said.

“Producing ammunition is a dangerous business,” the plant said in a statement. “Many safety protocols are put in place to ensure operators are exposed to as little danger as possible. Todays incident shows the effectiveness of those protocols.”

The facility said its mission is “to provide the Joint Warfighter with superior performing propellants, energetics, and munitions to enable engagement and destruction of targets with total confidence.”

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
